A group of Mississippi middle school students stepped up during a tense moment earlier this month after their bus driver suffered a medical emergency while driving, according to school officials.
The April 22 incident took place during dismissal in the Hancock County School District, which said students acted quickly to safely stop the bus, contact emergency services and remain calm until help arrived.
"We are grateful to report that all students are safe and were transported home safely. Students acted quickly to help ensure the bus was safely brought to a stop and then contacted emergency services," the district said.
"We are proud of our students for staying calm and acting responsibly."

What happened?
According to Storyful, bus driver Leah Taylor lost consciousness while operating the bus, prompting several Hancock Middle School students to work together to regain control of the vehicle. Some students helped steer and brake, while others contacted emergency services and notified the school district.
One student also assisted Taylor in taking medication she had been holding. Taylor had apparently suffered an asthma attack, Storyful reported.
The students were ultimately able to bring the bus to a safe stop.
