Alyssa Farah Griffin and The View producer Brian Teta took a rare shot at former cohost Meghan McCain.

The pair jabbed McCain, who left the show in 2021, with references to her iconic on-air fight with Joy Behar, after the comedian admitted she didn’t miss McCain during her maternity leave.

On her own Citizen McCain series, McCain has also publicly shaded Griffin, who took over her conservative seat.

The View’s conservative cohost Alyssa Farah Griffin (and producer Brian Teta) just took a rare shot at divisive former cohost Meghan McCain.

Griffin, who took over the seat McCain vacated in 2021, invoked the Republican panelist’s iconic on-air fight with Joy Behar. This followed Griffin bringing up to Teta that Behar hasn’t texted her back amid the 84-year-old comedian’s ongoing hiatus from The View, while she recovers from a serious shoulder injury.

“I’ve been speaking to her constantly, this is not a Mitch McConnell situation,” Teta, 50, said of Behar on the show’s Behind the Table podcast (below).

Griffin, 38, added that Behar has “not texted me back,” despite knowing that “she’s texted other hosts” amid her weeks-long absence stemming from a dislocated shoulder.

“I was like, ‘I miss you.’ Silence. I may have to ask her on air if she missed me,” Griffin said, referencing the moment Behar admitted that she didn’t miss McCain, while the latter was absent from the show after the birth of her first child.

Griffin and Teta laughed as the former whispered, “Sorry,” in apparent acknowledgement of the reference. This marked a rare on-record comment about McCain from a sitting panelist, as both Teta and the permanent cohosts typically refrain from engaging with McCain’s frequent criticism of her former colleagues.

Teta took the bit one step further, telling Griffin, “I’m sure she did, 100 [percent],” as they continued laughing about the exchange.

In a recent profile published by Vulture, Behar made comments that many interpreted to be about McCain, when she said, “Over the years, there’s been a couple of little mean girls” at the Hot Topics table.

When the publication asked about the 2021 spat with McCain, she added: “I thought, Well, good for you if that’s the worst thing anybody said to you. I wouldn’t say we were having dinner every night, but we got along fine.” (McCain eventually responded on her X account.)

Entertainment Weekly has reached out to McCain’s representative for a response to the new jabs from Griffin and Teta.

In April, McCain spoke out against Griffin, who joined The View in 2022, alongside fellow Republican panelist Ana Navarro (whom McCain has also regularly criticized in recent years).

“When I left The View, the executive producer said, ‘I want you to help me help pick your [successor],’” McCain said on her Citizen McCain program at the time, before voicing a series of factually incorrect statements about The View’s track record at the Emmys: “The show has only won an Emmy twice in its history — one time is when I was there, for Best Political Show.” (The View has won more than 30 Daytime Emmys, and there is no “Best Political Show” category.)

McCain added that that while she suggested “a list of women I thought would be great,” the show ultimately went with Griffin — a former Donald Trump White House staffer, who resigned from the president’s first-term administration, and subsequently spoke out against him.

“I’m gonna say something that’s a little nasty,” McCain said. “The person they replaced me with is a joke. She is in no way representative of conservative women. It’s been a wildly disappointing experience for me to see what legacy I helped do during the four years there while my dad battled brain cancer and I had not one, but two miscarriages while I worked there.”

In a 2024 interview with EW, current cohost Sunny Hostin responded to a question about McCain unfollowing her on social media.

“I didn’t know,” Hostin told EW with a laugh, after McCain appeared to criticize Hostin’s prior remarks on The View, without naming her outright. “I didn’t know anything happened. I’m not on social media like that. I guess I’ll give her a call. Maybe she broke up with me and I don’t know it. I don’t know what to say. I don’t think anything happened!”
