If there’s anything that calls for an over-the-top reaction, it’s being nominated for an Academy Award.
After Teyana Taylor found out that she was nominated for Best Supporting Actress at the 2026 Oscars for her role as Perfidia Beverly Hills in One Battle After Another, she didn’t hold back!
“I woke up very, very early. I couldn’t sleep. I washed my face, brushed my teeth, all of the things. Had my little muumuu, had my scarf on. I wanted to be loose and free flowing,” Taylor, 35, recalled in a new interview with People published on Friday, February 27.
Because the names are read in alphabetical order, Taylor anticipated hers coming last, but that didn’t lessen her nerves. “So after the fourth name I was like, ‘Oh my God.’ And they said my name and we just all started screaming,” the New York native detailed. “I lost my voice for maybe like four or five days, honestly.”

Of course, Taylor was surrounded by her loved ones for the monumental moment — well, virtually, anyway, because she was in the midst of preparing to host Saturday Night Live.
In fact, watching her mom, Nikki Taylor, react to the nomination is a moment she’ll never forget. “My mother, because she, first of all, has asthma," Taylor said of the FaceTime call. "So every single time I get a nomination, we have to calm her down. I literally get into protective mode.” Taylor noted that she also called her grandmother on FaceTime.
Taylor won the Golden Globe Award for Best Supporting Actress – Motion Picture at the ceremony on January 11. The 98th Academy Awards are on Sunday, March 15.
