Shocking footage shows the moment a speeding car nearly collided with a girl on a scooter in Poland.

The scary incident occurred in Biskupiec at about 6 p.m. local time on Thursday, Oct. 15, according to a news release from the Olsztyn City Police, per an online translation

Police said a 21-year-old driver of an Opel went through a roundabout before going to the wrong side of Warszawska Street, where they nearly struck the girl on her scooter.

CCTV footage shared on the police department’s Facebook page showed the horrifying moment the car nearly impacted the girl, who police said was riding the scooter on a sidewalk.

After narrowly missing the girl, the car crashed into a fence before falling off an overpass and into a roadside ditch, according to police.

Police said in their Facebook post that the girl was just “a few centimeters from the tragedy!!”

“This recording shows how little it takes for irresponsible and reckless driving to lead to a tragedy,” police wrote on social media.

Two people were in the car at the time of the crash, according to police. Both individuals were determined to be sober, but are undergoing further testing, they added.

Police said the driver’s license has been confiscated following the incident.

The individual will soon face court proceedings for traffic offenses committed, such as causing a traffic hazard, they added.

“Those involved in this accident and those around it can consider themselves incredibly lucky,” police said in the news release, per an online translation. “Excessive speed and loss of vehicle control can lead to tragedy.”

They added, “The road is no place for recklessness. One moment and one irresponsible maneuver can cost someone their health, or even their life.”
