Netflix star Trey Plutnicki is married!

The TV personality rose to fame after competing in the reality show Squid Game: The Challenge with his mother LeAnn, then participating in the all-star competition Battle Camp. His Netflix costars Shubham Goel, Quori-Tyler “QT” Bullock, Hallie Parrott, Roland Hannigan and Jessica “Figgy” Figueroa reunited on Saturday, Aug. 22, to watch him tie the knot.

Plutnicki, 29, married Cecilia Iole, 33, in a vibrant wedding in Chicago, the same city where they got engaged last year. The pair were joined by 175 guests, who were encouraged to “dress as colorful as possible.”

“We wanted to get married in Chicago because we live in this city and love this city,” the couple tells PEOPLE. “Neither of us or our families are from Chicago, so we wanted to give everyone an opportunity to see why we fell in love with Chicago — and maybe give them a chance to fall in love themselves.”

It was a week-long celebration in the Windy City with a “Chicago-style itinerary” that included a Chicago White Sox versus Chicago Cubs game at Wrigley Field and an architecture-based river boat tour. The couple explains, “We hoped people would see a few fun things on our wedding website and decide to build a vacation with our wedding as the center piece.”

The “Chicago garden party”-themed wedding was held at 167 Events, a sky-high venue located on the 17th floor of the 167 Green building. Lush greenery and florals in shades of pink, purple, red, orange, yellow and blue filled the space to fulfill the couple’s vision of a whimsical botanical soirée.

“We are both musical theater performers and have a flair for the dramatic,” Plutnicki and Iole tell PEOPLE.

Plutnicki wore a three-piece olive green suit by the custom menswear brand Indochino. He and the wedding party walked down the aisle as “Dreams” by The Cranberries played. Then, Iole made her grand entrance to The Beatles’ “Here Comes The Sun,” in a strapless Viero Bridal gown paired with a delicate lace-trimmed veil. Both songs were played on strings.

“I had tried on quite a few dresses before I tried on this one. I was starting to get worried that I wouldn’t find one that felt exactly like me: romantic, elegant, but with a bit of drama,” the bride tells PEOPLE. “When I tried this dress on, it was finally exactly what I was looking for.”

The couple exchanged handwritten vows underneath a colorful floral arch with views of the Chicago skyline behind them. The ceremony was officiated by their family friend, Marci Beaudoin.

“Getting married means the chance to share our partnership with our favorite people,” Iole says. “The community of people we’ve built around us is something we take pride in and are very intentional about. This is our chance to bring those people into this partnership that is already so special.”

Plutnicki and Iole already knew they were “life partners” before they said “I do.” But their wedding was extra special because it allowed their loved ones to witness them promise forever.

“We’ve done a lot out of order — we’ve moved in together, bought a house together, she’s in family group chats, we’ve fostered dogs together,” Plutnicki says. “Getting married, to me, is more about letting our friends and family take part in the commitment we are making. They are all witness to us making a promise to each other. Our invitation is asking for their support, and their attendance is an agreement to support.”

For the reception, which focused on “guest experience,” Iole changed into a silver sequined and feathered mini dress by AmenStyle from Something White Styling. She and Plutnicki shared their first dance to “You’re My Home” by Billy Joel.

Guests danced to live music and dined on their choice of prime New York strip steak or vegetarian ratatouille. For dessert, they were served slices of the dual-flavored, four-tiered wedding cake — half almond cake with a caramel mousse and vanilla pastry cream filling, and half lemon cake with a raspberry mascarpone and cream cheese frosting filling. The entire cake was frosted in vanilla buttercream.

The couple describes their wedding as “the best day ever.” They continued celebrating with a weekend retreat to a cozy bed-and-breakfast in Saugatuck, Michigan. In the new year, they will have an official honeymoon in Saint Lucia.

Plutnicki and Iole met at the Utah Shakespeare Festival in Cedar City, Utah. At the time, they were both actors for their 2021 summer season. Four years later on April 17, 2025, Plutnicki popped the question on bended knee on a pedestrian bridge in Lincoln Park during a “surprise date.” After the proposal, the couple went back to their condo where they celebrated with family and friends.

The newlyweds, who “practically never leave each other’s side,” joke that they’ll take their relationship to the next level by adopting a dog. Beyond that, they’re excited for whatever their next chapter brings.

Iole shares, “I’m so excited to see what our next chapter will be, and do it together.”
