Knicks take Jack Kayil after trading back in Round 2 of NBA Draft

Will the latest addition to the New York Knicks' roster stick?

After another in a sequence of several moves during the 2026 NBA Draft, the Knicks selected German guard Jack Kayil at No. 39 overall. The 20-year-old was originally committed to Gonzaga before entering the draft. He played last season for Alba Berlin in the German Bundesliga.

The Knicks entered the night with the first pick of the second round, but made an early trade. Per Shams Charania of ESPN, the team traded picks No. 31 and No. 55 to the Houston Rockets for No. 39 and No. 53 in addition to a 2029 second-round selection.

The move comes a night after the Knicks moved three times in the first round, going from No. 24 to No. 25 and then selecting Spanish guard Sergio de Larrea.

Shortly after that, the Knicks traded de Larrea to the Dallas Mavericks for the No. 30 pick Koa Peat and two second-round picks. Finally, they traded Peat to the Phoenix Suns for three additional second-rounders.

In all, the Knicks acquired five second-round picks on the night.
