Is another Oasis reunion on the cards? Liam Gallagher tells Noel: ‘Announce the tour’

“Ffs RKID announce the tour we’re all losing our minds.” So said the latest tantalising post from the world’s biggest wind-up merchant Liam Gallagher. Fans might stay sceptical... but could this in fact be the clearest indicator yet that another Oasis reunion is on the cards?

By now, a new tour might seem less of a surprise than those long-awaited 2025 shows. The rock band made history when brothers Noel and Liam Gallagher put an end to their years-long feud and reunited onstage for the first time in almost 16 years to play a record-breaking world tour, including a series of homecoming shows in Manchester.

Even before the 2025 tour concluded, fans predicted that Oasis would be keen to get back out on the road again, given the run of shows were a defining cultural event – as well as a very lucrative one. Oasis Live ‘25 was estimated by Forbes to have generated over $400m (£293m) in revenue, with Noel and Liam each pocketing between $50m-$100m. As a result, the pair cracked the Sunday Times Rich List this year with a combined net worth of $375m.

The Independent’s sources have said they understand that a Knebworth residency is on the cards but have yet to confirm any specific dates. This year marked the 30th anniversary of the band’s legendary Knebworth shows in 1996, where they played to a combined audience of 250,000 (more than four per cent of the population applied for tickets), including the rumoured 7,000-strong guestlist.

Sources have also said that Noel has been writing new music – it remains to be seen if this will emerge in the shape of the first Oasis album since 2008’s Dig Out Your Soul, with Liam on vocal duties.

Earlier this month, it was announced that SJM Concerts, the promoter behind the Oasis reunion tour, had secured a licence to host events at Knebworth indefinitely.

The promoter has also worked on shows with Take That and The Prodigy, as well as comedian Peter Kay.

The licence allows events for up to 125,000 people, with live music and dance performances permitted until 3am.

In July, The Sun claimed that Oasis would play six nights at Knebworth over a three-week period in September 2027. Meanwhile, the Manchester Evening News reported that same month that the rock’n’roll stars would headline 12 nights at the Etihad stadium, with an insider telling the paper: “It will be 12 nights at the Etihad Stadium across May and June. They could even add more dates to that as well, there’s talk of up to 20. The wider tour is also going to include a return to Knebworth.”

Before that, there was speculation in 2024 – after the band announced their comeback tour – that they would return to the site. Oasis denied this on X in a statement: “Contrary to reports in some UK tabloid media today, Oasis will not be playing Knebworth Park in the future.”

The Independent has contacted Oasis’s representatives for comment.

Contrary to tabloid media reports, sources told The Independent that the mood backstage during Oasis’s 2025 reunion was jubilant, with both Noel and Liam in great spirits as their famous friends – from football stars to pop singers, including Manchester City star Jack Grealish and the Happy Mondays’ Shaun Ryder – rubbed elbows.

“It’s been a proper love-in backstage,” one source said. “There’s a friends and family bar which is basically free booze – Guinness on draft (of course) (sic), beer, wine and champagne. It’s like going to a wedding every night.”

They continued: “Cast and Richard Ashcroft [Oasis’s support acts] are having the time of their lives – it’s been so nice to see Noel and Liam’s guests vibing off each other. Everyone’s been making new friends.”

And while it was true that Liam had left early each night – this was nothing to do with animosity towards his older brother and everything to do with him ensuring he was in peak condition for each concert.

“Liam has been completely zen, focusing on his voice and arriving shortly before each show, then getting straight off to avoid temptation,” a source told The Independent.

The 2025 reunion tour is the subject of a forthcoming documentary directed by Peaky Blinders creator Steven Knight, due for release in IMAX cinemas on 9 September and on Disney+. Titled Don’t Look Back In Anger, the film follows Noel and Liam as they undertake the Live ‘25 tour, which kicked off just over a year ago in Cardiff.

A 46-second teaser trailer, released last month, showed cheering fans before cutting to footage of the Gallagher siblings backstage getting ready for their first shows together since their split in 2009.

“Oasis Live ‘25, one of the most anticipated rock ‘n’ roll comebacks of our time,” Disney+ said in a statement. “The film is an unapologetically uplifting account of the biggest musical event of 2025, capturing the experience and emotions of the band and their fans across the world.

“The unique perspective includes rehearsal, backstage, and onstage access as well as the first joint interviews with Noel and Liam in over 20 years.”

When it comes to Glastonbury, Liam insisted over the weekend that an Oasis headline performance is “not happening” next year. Organiser Emily Eavis recently confirmed that all headliners have been booked.

As for a 2027 tour, for now, Oasis fans will just have to roll with it... the band are taking their time.
