According to a report in The New York Post, the confrontation occurred on October 11, 2026, near the intersection of McLeod Avenue and Weaver Street close to Bethune-Cookman University. According to Daytona Beach Police, when Roberts III was standing on a sidewalk, talking to a woman, Roberts pulled up in a vehicle, approached William, got out and confronted them.
Roberts allegedly referenced a prior romantic relationship with the woman, saying something like:
“That’s what we doing?”
He then pointed a tan-colored handgun at William Roberts III, referencing Rick Ross. Don Roberts yelled, saying:
“I don’t care who your daddy is, I’ll kill you right here.”
Roberts allegedly struck William Roberts III on the right side of the head with the gun, causing minor swelling, then drove off. William Roberts III also traveled to his family home. When police interrogated him about why he waited to contact police, he alleged that he was afraid, as per the report. During the investigation, Roberts III provided the officers with the suspect's name and possible birthday. He identified him from a photo lineup. Reports suggest that despite having similar names, police and records note that Don Roberts III and William Roberts III are not related.
Don Roberts III surrendered to the police on October 16, 2026, and has been charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon without intent to kill and aggravated battery with a deadly weapon. He pleaded not guilty on October 19, 2026.
According to a People magazine report, after about six days in Volusia County jail, he was released on a $50,000 bond on October 21. His arraignment has been set for November 10.
William Roberts III is one of Rick Ross’ five children, including daughters Toie and Berkeley, and sons Billion and Bliss. Born in 2005 with Tia Kemp, he was a collegiate football player at Bethune-Cookman University in Daytona Beach, Florida.
A report in NBC News stated that this case comes days after Ross was arrested and was accused of beating his girlfriend at his Miami Beach home, according to authorities. Police said that Ross struck her multiple times during an altercation on August 28, 2026 and restricted her breathing by twisting the collar of her hoodie.
