A veteran Hollywood producer has stated that Harry and Meghan never acquired the entertainment credentials necessary to convert their fame into long-term success as they prepare to go back to Britain to raise their family after six years in the United States.

Rick Nicita, an experienced producer and former talent agent who had been a principal at the Creative Artists Agency, said in an interview with Page Six that Harry and Meghan came to Hollywood with great celebrity but with very little else, which is usually what attracts investment in films and television.

Nicita said that they weren’t offering anything concrete, pointing out that their greatest asset was their celebrity obtained from another area of public life.

“I have absolutely nothing at all against Harry and Meghan, but they weren’t bringing anything tangible to the table other than their celebrity in a different sphere of life,” he stated, continuing: “So why would anyone give them money to make anything, since it’s not clear what their credentials were?”

Nicita pointed out that wealthy people from outside the industry usually get access to Hollywood by lending their own money to support projects, whereas experienced actors, writers, directors and producers enter the field having already demonstrated their creative abilities.

He then asked why financiers would agree to fund projects initiated by newcomers who did not have that kind of experience.

Yet Nicita didn’t rule out the possibility of Harry and Meghan eventually achieving success, stating that unexpected hits can quickly change a career, stating: “No one should be counted out.”

The criticism is happening at the same time as the Duke and Duchess of Sussex are preparing to go back to the U.K. with their children, Prince Archie, who is seven, and Princess Lilibet, who is five.

The children have been enrolled in a British school starting in September, but Harry and Meghan are still expected to retain their home in Montecito, California.

The fact that they have made this move does not indicate that they have officially stopped doing entertainment work.

After they resigned from their positions as senior working members of the royal family in 2020, Harry and Meghan entered into a lucrative agreement with Netflix.

The series Harry & Meghan, which was their most successful project, received 23.4 million views within its first four days, according to Netflix. Some of the other projects achieved more mixed results.

Their films on Netflix have been Heart of Invictus, Live to Lead, Polo and Meghan’s lifestyle programme With Love, Meghan.

This programme received 5.3 million views in the first half of 2025 and became Netflix’s most-viewed cooking show after its launch, the streaming company states.

In August 2025, their original Netflix agreement was substituted by a multi-year first-look deal, which meant that Netflix got the opportunity to look at film and television projects developed by Archewell Productions rather than keeping the earlier exclusive arrangement.

Their partnership with Spotify had already come to an end. Meghan produced one season of the Archetypes podcast before Spotify and Archewell Audio announced in 2023 that they had mutually agreed to terminate their agreement.

Even though there has been talk about Harry and Meghan pulling back from Hollywood, Meghan may soon go back to acting.

The former Suits actor has already shot a part in the forthcoming comedy Close Personal Friends and is said to beinvolved in a potential role in Guy Ritchie’s Netflix series The Gentlemen. According to PEOPLE, talks regarding the latter project are still going on, and no deal has yet been reached.

After going back to Britain, Harry and Meghan will still carry on with their private businesses, and Harry is expected to stay involved with the Invictus Games and his other charitable activities. They will not, however, return as active members of the royal family.

The shocking move from California came as a surprise to the British public. The couple inked several lucrative deals with Spotify and Netflix, but they fizzled out. Harry and Meghan planned to become entertainment producers, leveraging their status as British royals.

However, their success primarily came from spilling the tea on the secretive royal family drama and protocols.
